(Red Wing, MN) – Surrounded by his wife, Lisa, and family, former state Sen. John Howe today announced his campaign for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District.
“I’ve been approached by many friends and supporters asking me to consider running for this open Congressional seat,” said Howe. “I’m humbled by the expressions of support, and after a lot of discussion and consideration, I have decided to launch this campaign.”
“I’m not a career politician and am not pursuing this because I need a job. Washington D.C. is filled with too many people who are political insiders,” Howe continued. “I’ve spent my life building my businesses and raising my family.”
“I want to go to Congress to get things done and rein in wasteful government spending.” Howe added. “Congress needs more people that will work to provide common sense solutions, end the gridlock and go home instead of focusing on getting re-elected.”
“While I don’t like the influence of money on politics, the truth is that this campaign will be expensive,” said Howe. “Before I begin asking others to support my campaign, I think it’s important to demonstrate my own commitment by making a substantial personal contribution to this campaign.”
“Ultimately, however, campaigns are not about money, they are about ideas,” Howe said. “Over the past seven years we’ve seen a decline in this country’s standing around the world, and we’ve seen a tepid economic recovery at home. Voters can see that Washington is not working, and I’m anxious to bring common sense and a businessman’s perspective to the challenges we face.”
John Howe lives in Red Wing, MN with his wife Lisa where they are raising their three children, one in college and two attending public schools. John has started successful businesses including Sears stores and property development.
